For many of us, a cup of strong coffee in the morning gets us loaded with energy. Some even consume energy drink(s) in hopes of feeling more energetic during the day but trust me this alone would do you no good. In fact, this would harm you in long term.
Now before I tell you the tips to follow for all-day energy, I want you to remember to leave aside your phone, laptop or whatever device you are reading this article on, as soon as you have read it. Do some chores, go out and explore!
Here you go:
Pain reduction and relaxation:
You feel active and fresh when you are stress-less. If your body is not relaxed, what it hosts (our brain) couldn’t possibly be relaxed, right? So, the first step is relaxation and pain reduction. The rule here to alleviate pain and optimize brain and body is to exercise, run and stretch. Be consistent!
Regular stretches will improve mobility, joint function and VO2 max(the maximum amount of oxygen your body can use at once). Lower back pain exercises can be performed if you have back pain. These with neck stretches mitigate back pain and enhance spine structure. A couple of minutes of sun exposure a day can help the body produce vitamin D which helps in calcium absorption and increase in bone density making you even stronger. Getting enough sleep is critical to manage pain and promote healing.
Now, what about the mind?
The best way to take care of the mind is meditation.
Meditation has numerous types, some are complex, others simple. One common approach is just to sit still and comfortably, inhale and exhale mindfully. When your thoughts wander, notice that they have wandered and brought back attention to your breath. If you feel your pain, notice the pain and bring back attention to your breath.
Once you have been relieved of all the pain and are relaxed, you can enjoy the day with more energy and enthusiasm.
Timings do matter:
Wake up and sleep at the same time every day. This allows your body to sync to natural clock making it easier to wake up every day, improving alertness and elevating mood. Having breakfast and dinner every day at the same time reduces the cortisol hormone which is a stress elevating hormone.
Exercise same time every day to boost your immune system and let your body know the time you exercise.
Short naps during day reduce stress built up during work and eating snacks during breaks help with weight management and suffice the energy deficits of the body.
Things around you define you:
In the workplace be friends with your co-workers. One study showed that social laughter actually increases pain tolerance. Laughing along with others was shown to have the highest positive impact. Laughter has many positive effects, including increasing blood and oxygen circulation and raising your body’s level of endorphins (the body’s natural painkillers).
Be around optimistic people who make you feel good about yourself! Yes, find these people and stick to them for better.
Mindful and healthy eating:
When you wake up have a glass of water empty stomach and before brushing your teeth(to avoid fluoride contamination). Stay well hydrated throughout the day and take all the vitamins you need. Always eat breakfast in an hour after getting up. Choose breakfast wisely you don’t want to get bloated. An energizing breakfast can help.
Protein is the best fuel for your body. However, the source of protein you choose matters. Go for healthy protein sources and consume protein from different sources to remain strong and energized. “Carbs” is the second name for energy, never forget that!
Becoming aware of what you are eating is called mindful eating. Know your food!
You have probably read hundreds of articles that guide you to become a billionaire, better person, live a healthy and joyful life but do you realize the amount of time you have been spending on your phone could have possibly been better used for being more productive instead? Let’s face it, most of our time we spend on our laptop, PC or phone, we are scrolling through the endless news-feeds, social websites, and memes. But nothing much comes out of it, only stress and anxiety.
Phone screens emit blue light to help you see content even when it’s the brightest day outside but come night and while you are staring at your phone, your brain still thinks it’s day. This can result in an offset of melatonin production(a sleep-inducing hormone) and what ensues is low quality sleep, depression, retinal damage and more.
So make sure you minimize the time you spend before these digital screens to remain full of energy and active all day.
