REVIEW – MAYBELLINE VOLUME EXPRESS FALSIES MASCARA (WATERPROOF)

When it comes to affordable mascaras, Maybelline rules the drugstore market and has a bunch of different formulas to choose from. Today I will be reviewing the Maybelline Volume’ Express Falsies Waterproof Mascara which is my go-to product for the days when I want super long lashes.

This mascara comes in a cute purple and blue packaging with a brush that has staggered bristles. This unique arrangement of bristles, as opposed to bristles running uniformly around the brush, is claimed to provide extra lift, length, and volume to the lashes by getting to the root of each and every lash. The formula is also supposed to provide a falsie-like finish with dramatic length and volume without any clumps.

INTRODUCING SOLID FOODS TO YOUR BABIES: 9 THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

Starting an infant on solid foods is something all parents look forward to. And why not? It’s a milestone: a sign that Baby isn’t a newborn anymore and assurance that he’ll grow bigger and stronger. Besides, it’s fun to watch Baby’s mouth open like a baby bird’s, to play “here comes the airplane” games, and see Baby’s expression when he first tries strained peas.

So, as you stock up on bibs, spoons, and bowls, here are some things to keep in mind:

Hold off

Doctors always said that babies should start solids between 4 and 6 months of age. The new recommendation from the American Academy of Pediatrics is to wait until 6 months of age. Ideally, your baby should be breastfed exclusively before then. Breast milk is the perfect food for babies, and many studies have shown the health benefits to baby — and mom — from exclusive breastfeeding. But even formula-fed babies simply don’t need solid foods before 6 months, and giving them too early increases the risk of food allergies and obesity.

Keep it simple

For those first foods, use single-ingredient baby foods designed for early feeding. Or make your own. Just be sure to mash well and strain out any lumps (and don’t add any salt or seasonings.) Rice cereal mixed with formula or breast milk is typically recommended as the first solid food. But some researchers, such as Carine Lenders, M.D. of the Division of Pediatric Nutrition at Boston Medical Center, suggest that starting with fruits and vegetables is a better idea. That way Baby gets an early introduction to their flavors and eats fewer unnecessary carbohydrates. When giving cereal, Dr. Lenders recommends mixing it with water.

Use a spoon

Don’t give food from the bottle. If your baby pushes the spoon out with his tongue or otherwise has difficulty eating, he may not be ready. Wait a week or two. If the problems persist, talk to your doctor.

Less is more

In the beginning, 2 jars a day of baby food is more than enough. Keep the amount of cereal to 1 to 4 tablespoons, twice a day. If your baby decides he’s had enough (turns his head away, fusses, keeps his mouth closed, spits food out) don’t push him to eat. Letting him listen to his hunger cues will help him control his weight later in life.

Introduce new foods slowly

Babies need time to get used to new things in their bodies, so allow 2 or 3 days before trying another new food. Be on the lookout for rashes, diarrhea, vomiting, blood in the stool, or constipation, which could be signs of allergy or other reactions to the new food. Talk to your doctor if they occur.

But keep introducing them

Even if Baby does make an awful face when you give him strained peas, keep trying. It can take many tries before a food is accepted. And since food preferences are largely established by age 2, getting Baby used to vegetables early can make all the difference in establishing good lifelong eating habits.

Watch out for choking

Once they start eating, babies have a way of eyeing everyone’s food enviously. However, resist the urge to pass them a potato chip or chicken leg. You can start finger foods between eight and ten months, giving things like banana pieces, shredded lean meat, or overcooked pasta. Keep the pieces small! Never give sliced carrots or sliced hot dogs, nuts, popcorn, raw vegetables, hard candies, or whole grapes to babies; they can easily lodge in baby’s airway.

Babies don’t need juice

It’s far better for them to eat fruit than drink juice. Experts agree that lots of juice is bad for emerging teeth and increases obesity risk. If you don’t start the juice habit, you’ll never have to break it.

Don’t give peanut butter, egg white, or shellfish before age 1

These are very “allergenic” foods and can cause reactions and future allergies if given too early. If there’s a family history of food allergy, you may want to avoid wheat and soy before age 1 as well. Talk to your doctor about the best plan for your baby.

Follow these guidelines to give your baby a head starts at learning good eating habits, staying healthy, and getting bigger in the right way.

FILTER YOUR COFFEE:

Most of us prefer to have instant coffee, it is easy to prepare and time-saving too. But these instant coffee are unhealthy choices, they are not filtered and not healthy too. Filtered coffee does the elimination of cafestol and kahweol. These are the oil substances that raise the blood cholesterol levels. A DISEASE-PREVENTION PLAN FOR MEN

Men, do you know which diseases pose the biggest threats to your health? Heart disease and cancer — specifically lung, colon, and prostate — are the top killers of men in the United States. Reducing your risk for these diseases is within your control. Don’t wait for severe chest pain, high cholesterol, high blood sugar or an elevated PSA (prostate-specific antigen) level to get your attention. Here’s a plan to tune up your diet in three easy steps and take that target off your back.

Step 1: Eat More Plant-Based and Fewer Animal-Based Foods

A diet rich in colorful fruits and vegetables contains natural sources of vitamins, minerals, and fiber that help lower your risk of heart disease and certain cancers. They can also slow down the disease process. For example, men diagnosed with prostate cancer who added one serving of fish or tomato sauce daily had a 50% lower risk of their cancer progressing. Adding just two servings a week lowered the risk of progression by about 20%.

Two large Harvard-based studies of over 124,000 people showed that those who ate foods rich in carotenoids, such as carrots and tomato products reduced their risk of lung cancer by 32%. The link between red meat and heart disease is familiar to many. Now there’s also a cancer connection:

  • In a large U.S. study, men who eat at least 1.2 ounces of processed meat a day over the long term were 50% more likely to develop colon cancer, compared with those who ate the lowest amounts.
  • Men who eat more than 6 ounces of red meat (beef, pork, lamb) a day have a 60% higher risk of metastatic prostate cancer than men who eat less than 2.5 ounces a day.

What can you do? Eat 5 to 10 (1/2 cup) servings of fruits and vegetables daily. Choose varieties of different colors — green romaine, orange sweet potatoes, black beans, yellow corn, purple grapes, red watermelon, or white onions — to get the full range of health benefits.

Recommended – WHAT TO EAT TO LOSE WEIGHT?

Step 2: Choose Whole Grains in Place of Refined Carbohydrates and Sugars

Highly processed carbohydrates and sugars are stripped of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. An excessive intake of these foods leads to high insulin levels in the blood. This condition appears to be a growth factor for cancer cells, particularly when combined with obesity and a sedentary lifestyle.

  • Choose grain products (bread, cereals, crackers) that list “100% whole grain” on the package label.
  • Try brown rice, whole wheat pasta, barley, millet, oatmeal, and bulgur in place of white rice and pasta.
  • Aim for 25 to 35 grams of fiber daily.

Step 3: Be Savvy with Your Supplements

  • Don’t exceed 1,500 mg/day of calcium from foods and supplements.

Numerous studies have revealed a link between calcium and dairy intake and prostate cancer. Men with calcium intakes above 1,500 mg/day have a 2- to 2.5 -fold increase in advanced and fatal prostate cancer, compared with men who consume only 500 to 750 mg/day. High calcium intake lowers blood levels of vitamin D.

  • Take a vitamin D supplement.

A form called cholecalciferol is best: 600 to 800 IU daily. Low blood levels of vitamin D are associated with higher rates of several cancers including cancers of the:

  1. Breast
  2. Colon
  3. Ovaries
  4. Pancreas
  5. Prostate
  • Take a daily multivitamin/mineral supplement that contains at least 400 mcg folic acid and increases your intake of folic acid-rich foods.

Folic acid is a vitamin found in dark leafy greens, kidney beans, soybeans, soy nuts, oranges, asparagus, broccoli and fortified cereals. This nutrient lower blood levels of homocysteine, a chemical marker for heart disease risk. Low folic acid levels are associated with a higher risk of colorectal cancer, especially in people who drink excessive amounts of alcohol.

  • Avoid high-dose zinc supplements.

Compared with nonusers, men who take more than 100 mg/day of supplemental zinc have more than double the risk of advanced prostate cancer. Zinc from food sources, however, is not associated with prostate cancer risk.

  • Increase your intake of omega 3-rich fish, such as salmon, sardines, herring, mackerel, and bluefish.

Omega-3 fatty acids found in oily fish, walnuts, and flaxseed decrease inflammation, reduce the risk of fatal heart disease and lower triglyceride levels. They also may help protect against arthritis, depression, and dementia. (Men should avoid flax oil supplements, however, which are linked to increased risk of prostate cancer.) If you take a fish oil supplement, I recommend a dose of 500 to 1,000 mg EPA/DHA daily.

Recommended- HEALTH BENEFITS OF OMEGA 3 FATTY ACIDS

  • Get your antioxidants — vitamins C and E, selenium, beta-carotene and other nutrients you won’t find in a pill — from fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains.

Overall, the collective results from 38 studies fail to show a benefit of vitamin C and E supplements in cancer prevention and treatment. Studies on vitamin E and prevention of heart disease have also shown scant evidence of a protective role. Beta-carotene supplements increase the risk of lung cancer and death in smokers. More research is in progress to test the effectiveness of vitamin E and selenium supplements in prostate cancer prevention.

Don’t Forget These Keys to Your Disease-Prevention Plan

  • Get moving.

Moderate exercise lowers the risk of colon and prostate cancers and heart disease. It also helps prevent diabetes, obesity, stroke and hip fracture. Male doctors and dentists age 65 and older who exercised vigorously for at least three hours weekly had a 70% lower risk of advanced and fatal prostate cancer, according to one study. The American Cancer Society and other health organizations suggest at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise, 5 days a week. There is growing evidence that physical activity may decrease the risk for recurrence among some cancers.

  • Weight control really matters!

Obesity can shorten your life and put you at risk of developing heart disease and some types of cancer. Obesity is measured using a scale called a body mass index, or BMI, which is calculated using your weight and height. As a man’s BMI climbs above the normal range (19-25), his risk of dying of colon, esophageal, kidney, liver, leukemia, and several other cancers rises. And once an overweight man is diagnosed with prostate cancer, he’s more likely to die or have advanced disease, compared with a normal-weight man. Furthermore, having a “beer belly” appears to be a strong predictor of colon cancer risk: A waist size of 40 inches or more doubles your risk of colon cancer. Add a sedentary lifestyle to that and your risk is 3 to 4 times higher.

BEST FOUNDATIONS FOR OILY SKIN

This is more than just a look. It’s the look of summer: a healthy, natural glow that can be yours. Even with the heat going around during the summer, especially if you use public transportation, this can make your oily skin go crazy. But the good news is that we have found the products that will keep your oil under control. Because we know that no one wants a powdery, cakey complexion when the sun is out. It isn’t comfortable for no one because it highlights imperfections instead of disguising them.

You can be a person who likes to have a full coverage but the idea of a natural finish fills you with dread, and there is a product for you in our tested and tried edition.

Starting from Bare Minerals’ natural glowing finish to Estee Lauder’s full-on scar camouflaging cream base, there exists a coverage to suit every shiny oily skin’s need and a total bevy of flattering finishes. What you have to do is only to build up the foundation layers and brush over with a finishing powder for the morning to night staying powder.

How to choose the best oily skin foundation:

The best foundation for oily skin should provide good coverage, be non-pore clogging and long-lasting. Here are the basic steps for selecting the best oily skin foundation for your needs.

  1. Always opt for non-comedogenic or non-acnegenic foundations since they are specially formulated to prevent clogging on the pores.
  2. Choose oil-free foundations to avoid adding more oil to your skin
  3. If possible, go for powder based foundations, particularly natural mineral foundations instead of liquid-based foundations since powders are less irritating to the acne prone skins while controlling the shine better.
  4. Pick foundations with “matte” or “oil control” on the label. These products are formulated to reduce shine while stopping oil breakthrough.

How to apply your oily skin foundation:

Applying the foundation for oily skin is pretty easy and straightforward. First off, start by applying an oil control primer to your skin. This primer is especially useful for an acne prone skin because it smoothens the complexion while concealing the appearance of the pores. Thus, if your skin has large pores, then you need to use the primer before applying your skin best foundation in order to create a smooth canvas for the makeup.

Once you have done this, you need to choose the right foundation that will work for your oily skin. Most oily skin foundations are designed to minimize shines and breakouts. The powder-based foundation works well to stay loose thus giving you the best skin that looks natural while retaining its ability to relax and stay fresh.

Ensure that your hands are dry and clean when applying your foundation in order to avoid spreading any oil on your skin. It is also essential that you apply a moisturizer to your skin before applying your foundation. Most people avoid moisturizers for fear of breaking out their skins. However, will work against you as it causes your skin to dry out, producing more oil in the process?

Best Foundation for Oily Skin:

Nars Sheer Matte Foundation:

This gives you a matte finish without the powdery effect. Even better, it absorbs oil and controls skin shine throughout the day. You should apply it sparingly if you like to have the sheer coverage effect.

Vichy Dermablend Corrective Stick Foundation:

If you are looking for a handbag friendly base we have found this discreet, targeted foundation stick. Just with one sweep, you give your skin an ample coverage and that stays for at least 16 hours. And even better it stands up to humidity and water too.

Stila Stay All Day Foundation:

The best thing about this product that is oil-free and lightweight foundation is the matching concealer pot found inside the lid. Just pat it over any spots that need extra coverage and you will never be found guilty of a color mismatch again!

Sisley Phyto – Teint Expert Foundation:

Just like some other type of skins, oily skin can be sensitive sometimes too. This soothing formula from Sisley combines ginkgo bilboa, frangipangi blossom and cucumber to soften a stressed out complexion without adding to oil production. A genius choice!

Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation:

A lightweight liquid base manages to cover large pores without getting settled into them. This happens by releasing the moisture into the skin over several hours so your complexion stays fresh-looking well into a cocktail hour.

Maybelline New York Superstay 24hr Foundation:

Dryness, heat, sweat, and humidity – you just name the skin for and this perfect formula can beat it. How does this work? It just uses two types of resin and wax in its innovative formula to stretch with the movements of your skin for a full 24 hours of flawless coverage. It really works

REVIEW – L’OREAL GENTLE EYE AND LIP MAKEUP REMOVER

Makeup removal is an essential step of skin care and doing it correctly can make your skin much healthier and acne free. While I always follow up a makeup remover with a good face wash/ cleanser, I still prefer using a makeup remover to break down my skin and eye makeup first. The Loreal Gentle Eye and Lip Makeup Remover is a multi-tasking product that I use not only for my eyes and lips but also for my entire face to remove my makeup in a jiffy before proceeding with my skincare routine.

This product is a bi-phase makeup remover, which means that you have to shake the bottle every time before using it to make sure that the oil mixes in with the other liquids. It claims to remove waterproof eye makeup and lip colors in a single swipe while being gentle on the delicate areas of the face. It comes in a plastic bottle with a screw on lid and an opening that dispenses just the right amount of product for a single use. The packaging is pretty sturdy and spill proof and the 125 ml bottle is quite compact, making it perfect for traveling with.

Makeup remover

Although this product is meant for the eyes and the lips, I also use it all over the face because I do not like using too many products in my evening skincare routine. One cotton pad soaked in this product removes everything, from waterproof mascara and eyeliner to matte foundation and liquid lipstick, with great ease.

The added bonus is that unlike some of the alternatives available in the market, this formula does not irritate my overly sensitive eyes at all, which is one of the primary features that I look for in an eye makeup remover. I also love that I do not have to resort to multiple rounds of wiping and rubbing my skin when using this product – it definitely lives up to its claim of being gentle.

Bear in mind that this product contains oil, so you cannot skip the face wash after using this remover. It leaves a thin film of oil on the face that can clog the pores if you do not wash it off. In fact, cleansing after makeup removal is something I recommend regardless of the remover you use because nothing can beat the efficiency of a double cleanse.

To make your face even more squeaky-clean, use a toner after the face wash to remove any dirt that may have stayed embedded in the pores. When I use a toner after using some other makeup remover, I usually notice a lot of residual makeup on the cotton pad, but when I use this makeup remover, the toner does not pick up as much dirt. This is the ultimate test for any makeup remover and means that the product actually does a great job at removing makeup.

Although the price of INR 490 for a 125ml bottle may seem a bit steep, this bottle will last you a really long time, and I feel that this product is one of the most affordable and effective makeup removers on the market at the moment. So if you are on the hunt for a great makeup remover than the Loreal Gentle Eye and Lip Makeup Remover is my tried and tested recommendation for you.

SHAVING MYTHS AND FACTS

When I was a teenager, my friends told me I should put off shaving as long as possible because shaving makes your hair grow back faster, thicker and darker. So the sooner I started shaving, the sooner I’d have to shave every day. They were right. Before long I was shaving daily and if I skipped, it showed. Of course, over the course of a year or two, that was true of all my friends.

So, is it true that shaving makes your beard grow faster? Is it true that girls should delay shaving their legs as well? Does shaving affect hair growth? If not, why do people believe this myth?

How Hair Grows

First, let’s talk about hair growth. The real action happens below the skin’s surface, in the hair follicles. A hair follicle is a specialized gland just beneath the skin where a shaft of hair is produced. The color, length, and consistency of a hair are determined in the hair follicle. The number of hair follicles determines the number of hairs over a given patch of skin, which is a key determinant of hair thickness.

There’s nothing you can do by cutting a hair shaft at the surface of the skin that will alter how quickly it grows back. You also can’t alter its color or texture. And certainly, shaving doesn’t increase the number of hair follicles, which is the only way to increase hair thickness. That’s true whether the hair is located on the face or the legs. The only thing shaving does is shorten hair.

So my friends were wrong: shaving doesn’t make hair grow back faster, thicker or darker. They were simply repeating what they’d heard from friends or family who had equally unreliable sources.

Origins of a Myth

It’s easy to assume that when one event follows another, the first one caused the second one. But that may be faulty reasoning. People start to shave when hair becomes noticeable in places they’d rather not have hair. We do shaving because hair is growing darker, thicker or faster. Shaving does not make that happen.

This myth may also follow the practice of pruning plants and trees, which is intended to stimulate the growth of new branches. Hair, however, grows strand by strand, from a single hair follicle, without branching.

Another reason for this myth is that stubble — shaved hair that is just starting to grow back — is sharper and more noticeable, and may feel thicker, than hair that’s grown out for a while.

What Really Calls the Hair Shots

If you’ve ever wondered why hair stops growing (for example, when men become bald) or why it turns gray, it’s due to changes in the hair follicle. Hair follicles are influenced by the genes you inherit from your parents, your hormones, and your age. They may be programmed to quit making hair or to stop producing pigment and it changes over time, whether we like it or not. Your hair will grow until it stops, turn gray when it’s ready and fall out on its own schedule.

If thinning hair is the problem, the only highly reliable way to increase the thickness of your hair is to add hair follicles. That’s what cosmetic surgeons do: they transplant hair from where it’s growing normally to bald or thinning areas.

Other treatments are less reliable but may be effective for certain types of hair loss. For example, minoxidil (Rogaine), applied to the scalp, may improve the health of hair follicles by opening up blood vessels around them. It can be used by men or women. Finasteride (Propecia) delays the death of hair follicles by blocking dihydrotestosterone (DHT), an enzyme related to testosterone. Finasteride is approved only for men with male-pattern baldness.

Sometimes, hair changes are due to more than just getting older:

  • An underactive thyroid can make hair coarse or dry and vitamin B12 deficiency may accelerate the graying of hair.
  • Cosmetic treatments, such as perms, ironing, or coloring can damage hair and unintentionally change its color or appearance.
  • The chemicals used to kill algae in a swimming pool or the copper in the water or pipes are thought to make light- colored hair temporarily turn green.
  • Pregnancy can alter the growth cycles of your hair follicles, temporarily causing a reduction in hair loss that may make your hair seem thicker. Then, after you give birth, an alarming loss of hair may follow. While it’s perfectly normal to lose this hair, noticeable thinning or baldness doesn’t commonly occur after a routine pregnancy.

The Bottom Line

You may want to delay shaving simply because there’s a lifetime of shaving ahead of you once you start. But delaying your first shave (or any other shave) will not change how your hair grows or how soon you have to do it again.

So shave as often or as rarely as you like. But once it grows back, don’t blame its appearance on when you started shaving. It just doesn’t work that way.

HOW TO GET RID OF ACNE/PIMPLES FAST

Even if your face is very beautiful and glowing still one pimple or acne mark can make your face ugly. Only one dark spot can have a negative impact on your overall personality and confidence because your face is the first thing which every person notices when they meet you. THE BENEFITS OF OILY SKIN

The downsides to having oily skin are usually very obvious to those who live with it. Clogged pores, excess oil, blemishes, and red marks are often problems for those searching for the best foundation for oily skin. There are benefits to having oily skin, however, so take heart! Some people are proud of their oily skin, and consider it to be a gift of their heritage.

Here are some of the benefits of oily skin, and perhaps a few reason for you to be thankful if you have it!

Oily Skin Is Easier To Treat Than Dry, Sensitive, or Combination Skin

Dry skin can be very difficult to deal with, requiring much more than simple moisturizers to treat. Dermatologists often list dry and sensitive skin as the most challenging to treat, requiring frequent return visits and a number of treatments and products. These types of skin can also be very uncomfortable, as chief among their symptoms are inflammation and irritation. Oily skin is easier to manage, and can often be handled by simply paying close attention to your cleansing routine, as well as your diet.

Oily Skin Reduces The Appearance Of Aging

It might just be the best kept anti-aging secret out there, but oily skin does a great job of limiting the effects of aging. The primary effects of time on your skin are wrinkles, lines, age spots, and sagging. Oily skin is naturally very youthful, a product of being lubricated and sustained by the oil produced by your pores. Healthy, firm oily skin stops age spots, wrinkles, and fine lines – and you don’t have to lift a finger to do it.

Oily Skin Tans Evenly

We’re not advocating the use of tanning booths, or even tanning in general, however, oily skin does take exposure to the sun more evenly than other skin types. If you’re someone who spends a lot of time outdoors or hopes to have skin that looks lively, smooth, and healthy, oily skin will help in achieving your desired look. Always wear sunscreen when you plan to be out in the sun for any extended period of time.

Naturally Moisturized Skin

Have you ever applied your foundation early in the day, and then noticed that it’s dried out or soaked into your skin later on? Nothing is more annoying than having to reapply your makeup frequently throughout the day. Oily skin helps you to avoid dry patches or flaky makeup by keeping your skin naturally moisturized. Healthy, supple skin beneath your makeup will help it to stay fresh all day long, from your foundation to your eyeliner. Other skin types don’t have the advantage that oily skin provides when it comes to makeup.

Oily Skin Resists The Elements

One good benefit of oily skin is its ability to resist environmental elements. Whether you spend time in the wind, rain, or cold, your naturally thicker and suppler skin simply stands up to the elements better than other skin types. You can feel confident being outside in the elements because your skin is resilient, and not only weathers well, but recovers from exposure much more quickly.

Some people may still believe the negatives of having oily skin far outweigh the positives. Oily skin can attract dust and pollen, and often causes breakouts of acne. Clogged pores can lead to blemishes, as well, and your confidence can take a hit when you don’t feel as though you look your best. Managing your oily skin is an important part of keeping your skin healthy, and managing oily skin is not very complicated.

Wash your face with a gentle cleansing soap that is suitable for everyday use. Use hot water when washing your face, as it helps to cut excess oil from the surface of your skin. It will also keep your skin feeling drier. After washing, be sure to use a very light moisturizer. Thick creams or gels can complicate your oily skin challenges. There are many moisturizing products made specifically for oily skin. Choose those when purchasing your cleansing products. Also, periodic mud or clay masks often help to dry excessively oily skin.
